Okay, so I've completed my first 4 training runs. Surprisingly enough, I'm holding up quite well. Besides my adorable new gray and pink Nike running shoes, I count on my ipod to help me make it through my runs. Julie and I are both using the NIKEplus technology for support. This amazing invention allows my shoes to tell my ipod how far and how fast I'm running. In turn, my ipod speaks to me during my runs, giving me feedback and encouragement. The data then uploads to the NIKEplus website which keeps track of everything. Who knew there was so much support out there???
APPLICATION: Thank you God for not leaving us on the Earth without support. You've given us Your Word so that we are never far from the truths we need!

Lessons on Faith
Community groups are the lifeblood of the church. Our small group meets every Thursday for lunch and we have for many years. Sure we take summers off, and we miss a few weeks every now and then, but our eclectic group of single moms, married folks, a retired preacher and a handful of divorced and remarried believers has shared scores of lunches, lessons and life moments. We have an unusually high percentage of members who have survived cancer... other than that, we're a pretty normal group of people. Since we're comfortable being invested in each others' lives, I was not surprised to hear myself say "I'll run with you!" when my friend Kim told me she'd be running the San Diego half marathon in June. Of course, I forgot the fact that I don't actually RUN.
APPLICATION: When Jesus walked on the water to the disciples' boat during the storm, Peter did not hesitate when Jesus invited Peter to get out of the boat. (NOTE: Peter was not a habitual wave-walker.) Peter then walked several steps successfully on the water's surface before doubting his decision and dropping into the lake. Jesus shows up when we respond in love. I am counting on God to keep me afloat during this process. Unlike Peter, I am not venturing out on the water alone, I'm bringing along my small group "battle buddy" (aka Julie) who has agreed to join in the adventure! I can't wait to see what God will teach us through our training!
